Public school teachers’ battle of wits for #PaFREECPDniVIBAL
Not just ten, not just eleven, and not even twelve. Thirteen! Thirteen public school teachers were selected as winners of free slots for the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training held at the Vibal office in G. Araneta Avenue last June 15, 2018. CPD is one great tool to aid professionals on their ongoing journey to success and lifelong learning.
Teachers with the best teaching tips on how to make the whole academe experience a center for growth and development were chosen.
According to Beth Cardenas of Legarda Elementary School, collaborative activities that require hands-on experience have been proven effective. She added that infusing real-life situations helped learners to be equipped with the necessary skills to be globally competitive.
Meanwhile, Franklin Aguirre Amoncio of Angono National High School shared several teaching strategies that work for him as an academic mentor. He integrates the giving of tokens as rewards, providing collaborative classroom activities, launching of lecture series, and conducting educational trips in his teaching methods.
“Ipaalam din sa simula pa lang ng klase na hindi mo monopolyo ang kaalaman, kailangan nilang maging responsable sa kanilang pagkatuto” (Let your students know that you do not hold the monopoly of knowledge. They need to be fully responsible when it comes to learning), Amoncio emphasized.
Joseph Raniel Bianes of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Manila left a similar remarkable insight, “There are no fools, just misguided students waiting for someone to unleash their potentials… touch their hearts and make them realize their vision or goal in life.”
However, according to Jasmin Barrios of Disiplina Village Bignay Elementary School, applying a particular classroom strategy can be a factor of difficulty when catering to the needs of the students: teachers must be specific on their student assessment activities.
“When you deliver your lesson, you should be like a walking book that your class would want to read. Be an animated teacher and enjoy learning with your class. Let them know that you love what you’re doing—teaching and learning. Because education is not a preparation for life, but education is life itself,” Barrios added.
Vibal earned its PRC accreditation as a CPD provider for professional teachers in 2017. It now serves as the organization’s tool to help Filipino educators meet the 21st-century standard of the K to 12 curriculum.
