Health-Optimizing Physical Education: Dance is part of Vibal’s HOPE series. Its main focus is on dance as the platform for acquiring the knowledge, skills and dispositions to lead an active lifestyle for the purpose of optimizing health. This textbook provides a panorama of dance forms that one can choose from and engage in as a regular physical activity, both in PE classes and as an independent pursuit. It leads the learner to re-discover and explore the richness of dance, the variety of its meanings, and its creative influence in our lives and culture. The learner will also experience how dance movements can both be spontaneous and achieve a form that is structured in terms of style and genre. In this way, it can be repeated, learned, understood and appreciated. HOPE 3 provides moderate-to-vigorous rhythmical activities that start in the PE classes and leading to opportunities beyond the confines of the class so as to enable learners to become physically fit and acquire the movement competencies and confidence that they need for a lifetime of healthy, active living.
